We all have short term memory loss.
Wake up. Get ready for the day. Go to work. Come home. Make dinner. Take care of your family. Decompress. Go to bed. Do it again. Do it again. Do it again. As time goes on, even if we are intentional, we get worn out. I write from experience, I get worn out.
I write this article on a premise I believe is common for many of us Christians, we have short term memory loss. What I mean is we forget (for a short time) what Christ has done, and is doing for us, and sometimes it is just encouraging to have a reminder for when life gets busy. I write this short post as encouragement for any Christian feeling burnt out, warn out, or just tired. Here are 7 promises we find in scripture about what Jesus has done for us. I plan to expound on each of these later in their own posts, but for now, here is a short reminder of each. Take a few minutes and sit on each point.
Christ has planned your salvation from before the foundations of the earth.
Ephesians 1:3-6a says, “ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, ****even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace”
God knew before creation that he was going to save you. He foreknew what was to come and intentionally saved you. He knew everything about you and chose to save you.
Christ has absolutely satisfied God’s wrath on your behalf.
Romans 5:8-9, says “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!”
We know as sinners, we were deserving of God’s righteous wrath against sin. However, Jesus has completely satisfied out debt and given us absolute peace with God.
Christ has a plan and purpose for you.
Ephesians 2: 8-10 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
I think salvation is wild. We do nothing to deserve it, yet are gifted it. God then goes and takes the rest of our lives and conforms us to the image of Jesus while also including us in His plan to redeem humanity.
Jesus is interceding for you.
Romans 8:33-34 says, “Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.”
It’s always interesting when you either don’t know what to pray yourself, or when you don’t know how to go to others and ask for prayer. Thankfully, Jesus is praying for us. This means He is perfectly interceding for us before the Father.
Jesus sympathizes with you.
Hebrews 4:15 says” For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things like we are, yet without sin.”
Jesus has been tempted in all things, He gets it, temptation is hard, but He has overcome the world. Now he walks with us and helps us to become more like himself.
Christ will complete His work in you.
Philippines 1:6 says, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Simply put, Jesus does not lose his sheep. He takes care of them fully and always brings them back.
You are unable to undo what God has done.
John 10:28 says, “and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish—ever; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”
and
Ephesians 1:13, “In Him, you also, after listening to the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise”
and
Romans 11:29, “for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”
We need to know that all of this works has been accomplished because of Jesus. WE cannot undo any of it. If we could it would unravel instantly. However, we are absolutely secure in Christ. Praise God!
In the weeks to come I hope to write much more in depth about each of these topics. I pray these verses are as encouraging to you as they are to me.
